General information

Background: Original school founded and endowed under will of Thomas Andrews in 1719; granted aided status under 1944 Education Act, meaning that it is owned by the diocese and given financial and educational support by the local education authority, while remaining faithful to original Church of England foundation. Beautiful 18th-century Grade II* listed building which forms nucleus of school has been modified and extended. Most recent building work provided school with new classroom in 2001. Small classes, with flexible and varied organisation to match individual child's needs. Facilities include computer suite with 15 computers. Many clubs, including choir, football, netball, recorders, rounders, kwik cricket, French, orchestra, cycle safety training, and Christian-based activity club. Kwik cricket, football, netball and rounders teams compete successfully in local tournaments; all junior children encouraged to represent the school. Also opportunities to learn musical instruments. Day visits support curriculum; children in Years 5 and 6 have opportunity to take part in residential visit. Active parent, teachers and friends association (PTFA) raises substantial funds and arranges social events for whole community. At least five or six events for variety of charities every year. 'As an expanding school, we are committed to retaining and maintaining the intimate, family-centred ethos of a village school while ensuring that their learning needs are met effectively. Our school values each child as an individual'. DfES achievement awards (2000, 2001, 2002).
