General information

Background: Charles Kingsley, author of The Water Babies, founded this school in centre of rural village of Eversley in 1853, when he was curate of St Mary's Church. The school building has been developed extensively, both internally and externally. There are nature areas for study in the school grounds, such as wild gardens, a pond area, a Bible garden and a butterfly garden, as well as a grass playing areas and a sports field. The school has many individual and networked computers, including internet access, and there are regular off-site visits. Pupils have opportunities to learn woodwind, stringed instruments, keyboards and recorders, in addition to joining the school choir. Sports activities include football, rugby, lacrosse and gym. There is an active parents' association, raising substantial funds to support school expansion and provision of additional learning resources. Organised events include antiques day, old-time music hall evening, quiz and race nights, as well as summer and Christmas fairs. Links with the village community involve going to church at Founder's Day service, harvest and Christmas celebrations. Artsmark Silver; Investor in People status; DfES achievement award.
