General information

Headteacher: Simon Williams, appointed in 2004.

Background: From first-year team-building at an adventure centre to mock university interviews, pupils are monitored and supported by teachers at every stage of their school career. Churcher's College seeks to achieve its promise of maximising its pupils' potential by providing a curriculum that gives them the widest range of experience in a happy, caring, but disciplined environment. The school makes considerable use of up-to-date technologies in teaching and a short IT course equips pupils to take responsibility for organising their work early on. Small classes ensure that individual needs are addressed. Most pupils take up opportunities to join in drama, through a weekly club, links with local theatre groups and regular visits to productions in London. Annual plays and house competitions give everyone a chance to get involved. Musical pupils can take tuition from one of 20 visiting teachers and there are regular concerts. Pupils produce an eclectic range of art and the department has a digital photography suite and three studios. Keenly contested house competitions ensure that every pupil takes part in a competitive sport. Expert coaching and links with county bodies have supported local, national and international success in recent years. A sense of adventure is an asset at Churcher's. The school runs a strong Duke of Edinburgh's Award scheme and expeditions are made to destinations such as Peru, Cambodia, Nepal and Mt Kilimanjaro.
