General information

Background: Opened in 1939; several extensions, including science and technology facility; two-form entry school, without a nursery; classes to Year 7, but some children transfer to out-of-borough secondary schools at the end of Year 6. French taught from Year 4. School involved in local cluster sports initiatives; increasingly successful in local competitions; swimming taught in Year 4. Strong links with local high school. Over-subscribed, with 1.5 applications per place. Healthy Schools award; Artsmark Gold (2006); Basic Skills Quality Mark; DfES achievement awards; training school status. Ethos: 'The purpose of the school is to provide a consistently high standard of learning and teaching, where achievement is appreciated and success celebrated.
