General information

Background: Dyke House School is a host school for a city learning centre and is located in a highly socially deprived area. Dyke house is part of a pilot scheme, which began in 2002 following the 'extended school' model. Extended schools aim to solve the problems associated with social exclusion and multiple disadvantages. Onsite there is a children centre, social services office, police presence and careers advice centre. In addition the school offers a floodlit all-weather pitch, swimming pool, professional music recording studio and dance studio. Dyke House School encourages all pupils to take part in sports. It plays soccer, rugby, basketball, hockey, netball, as well as cricket, tennis and volleyball. The school has achieved 'School Achievement Award' three times in a row and has been re-organised with 'Investors in People' status for the fifth time as well as achieving the 'Charter mark' for excellence in customer care for the third time. It also has excellent links with primary partner and post 16 providers and business community. The school has supported the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme and pupils have achieved record numbers of bronze and silver awards in the past four years. The school aims to create an atmosphere in which all its children can realise their full potential to allow them to grow into caring, skilled and mature adults, able to ensure a thriving future for their community. .
