Background: Opened in 1971, school occupies elevated position on western boundary of Hartlepool. Housed in single-storey building, with 11 classrooms, adjoing practical areas, and wireless ICT networking. Self-contained nursery within grounds. Extensive school grounds accommodate sports pitches, wildlife/nature area. Many extra-curricular activities include boys' and girls' football, cricket, gymnastics and tennis. Close links with community; thriving Friends' Association; supports national and local charities, including the Children's Society, NSPCC, Hartlepool Hospice, and RNIB. Over-subscribed, with 1.3 applications per place. Schools Curriculum Award; Basic Skills Quality Mark (2002).
