General information

Background: John Kyrle High School and Sixth Form Centre offers a high quality and exciting educational experience for students aged 11-18. There is a real sense of vision and commitment to raising standards. The school is a DfES designated High Performing Specialsit School and has gained awards including School Achievement, British Council International School, Chartemark, Diana Princess of Wales Memorial and IIP. Both the Headteacher and Head of Mathematics have been successful in the prestigious National Teaching Awards. John Kyrle is consistently in the top performing 20 per cent of schools for Value Added performance. Extra-curricular provision is strong including drama, music, sport and Duke of Edinburgh. LTA-standard tennis courts are available on site, as are hard-court hockey pitches, artificial cricket wicket and indoor and outdoor nets, and a six-lane grass-running track. The school is in the process of developing Astroturf provision. Music rooms include provision for instrumental practice and music technology and the drama studio is currently undergoing refurbishment. There are excellent links with local sport, drama and music groups in the community. International links are particularly strong and in the summer of 2006 alone the school had students on visits in Uganda, South Africa, Normandy and France. Links are developing with Chile and USA. The school aims to provide a hard working, caring and ambitious environment at the heart of its community.
