General information
Background: It is situated two miles east of the market town of Leominster, the school founded to serve the local rural community in 1856. It is set in two acres of grounds and surrounded by 'picturesque, rolling farmland', it was modernised and expanded in 1972. Facilities now include an 'excellent' playing field, four main classrooms, two practical areas, a kitchen/resources room and an environmental study area. The curriculum is taught within 'a Christian atmosphere' geared towards individual needs and emphasising 'co-operation rather than competition'. A 'strong tradition' of music and drama is nurtured, and music groups compete 'very successfully' at the annual Hereford Music Festival. The school offers a number of sports, including swimming, rugby, football, netball, cricket and cross country. Football and netball teams compete regularly against other schools. There are also gardening, choir and dance clubs. The school maintains 'close links' with the church and the village community, and pupils support a variety of charities. Parents are welcome to volunteer around the school. The school also has an association with Nambola School in Tanzania, which involves teacher visits, children's letters and fundraising events.
