General information
Background: Founded by the church in 1855, the school moved to its present site in 1967 as a four-class school. It has now grown to seven classes. Located in North Herefordshire, it mainly serves children from the villages of Orleton, Richards Castle, Brimfield and Little Hereford. The school is set in its own grounds with 'large' playing fields. In 2000 a new information and communication technology (ICT) suite was opened. In 1998 the school won several tournaments but was 'particularly outstanding' in netball, football and swimming, in which it was the North Herefordshire champion. The school was also named by Her Majesty's Chief Inspector of Schools in England as a 'particularly successful' school in 1998 and was subsequently awarded Beacon status in 1999. 'Strong' community connections include links with the Church, the village resource centre and local sporting clubs and the school is generally a meeting place for parents. The village magazine is printed in the school. In addition, the school has links with Tanzania through the Leominster-Tengeru Trust and has also raised money for various local and national charities.
