General information

Background: The school was formed in 1973 from the union of two former Church secondary schools: the ancient Bluecoat (founded 1710) and the Bishop's School (1958). It sited in a prosperous, leafy suburb of eastern Hereford and serves the local community and the Hereford Diocese. The original building is redbrick, below which spread flat-roofed buildings dating from 1973. Facilities of the school includes nine laboratories, craft workshops, a music suite, a drama studio, two-storey sports hall and an outdoor heated swimming pool. Christian principles determine the way this over-subscribed school is run. It has a Special Education Centre for pupils with moderate learning difficulties and physical disabilities. A new centre was built in 1994. The school names its strengths as art and drama, sport, music (it has two main orchestras and choirs) and the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme. It is a specialist Technology College with strengths in Information and Communication Technology, science, mathematics and technology and has achieved Sportsmark Gold, Artsmark Gold, Investors in People and Charter Mark. The extra-curricular activities of the school include netball, football, rugby, tennis and badminton. There is wide range of opportunities offered in the school at lunchtime and after-school to enhance the learning of pupils. The school has a positive, caring ethos, where Christian principles are at the heart of its organisation, while love and respect for all dominate its behaviour code.
