General information
Background: Founded in 1791, the school has occupied its present site since 1891. Its catchment area comprises the whole of the Black Isle peninsula, a rural area of small towns, villages and scattered communities to the north of Inverness. It enjoys a beautiful rural setting on the Black Isle peninsula, 15 miles from Inverness, where it overlooks the Moray Firth. The original building is still in use but two major buildings have since been added, in addition to a major recent extension. There is a 'very strong' special educational needs (SEN) department and an 'outstanding range' of extra-curricular opportunities, particularly in sport and music. The school won the European Business Game in 2000 and has been Scottish Young Enterprise champions three times. A 'huge' amount of fund-raising is done for charity, in particular for link schools in Malawi. The school aims to identify and develop fully the talents of the pupils and to encourage the highest possible level of academic attainment.
