General information

Background: Kinlochbervie High School opened in August 1995 in purpose-built accommodation. In order to fulfil its aim of 'equipping its pupils for the workplace of today', the school uses a 'full range' of teaching materials for each subject. This is 'particularly notable' in information and communication technology where all pupils and staff have e-mail adddresses. The school supplements the curriculum with inter-house sporting and non-sporting competitions, the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme, visits to the theatre and a French exchange. The school's location is 'ideal' for a range of outdoor activities such as hill walking and watersports. These are supported by the good relations with the Countryside Ranger Service and the John Muir Trust. Sporting enthusiasts also benefit from a floodlit all-weather playing surface and a 'well-equipped' fitness room. One member of staff is dedicated full-time to teaching pupils with special educational needs, and one-on-one development takes place in a learning support room as a supplement to integrated teaching.
