General information
Background: Nairn Academy is located on the western side of the former county town of Nairn. Its site is in a suburban housing area, which lies between the A96 (Aberdeen to Inverness) trunk road and the Aberdeen to Inverness railway line. The school is a six-year comprehensive school, which was founded in 1832. The school serves the burgh and former county of Nairn and has a roll, which has varied, recently, between 770 and 830 pupils. By 1969, the school had grown to outstrip its former site and a new building was planned and subsequently erected at the western end of the town. The new school was first occupied in January 1976, and was formally opened in June of that year. The school provides a wide range of extra-curricular activities including: netball, football, athletics, badminton, golf, table tennis, swimming, rugby and tennis. It also provide musical and other various activities to enhance the learning of pupils. The school aims to develop pupils to their individual potentials in terms of knowledge and understanding as well as essential skills - intellectual, physical, practical and creative. .
