General information

Background: Brentford School for Girls encourages achievement in a range of activities including music, sports, art, active citizenship, dance and drama. It provides a broad and balanced curriculum which ensures pupils of all abilities can achieve the highest academic standards of which they are capable. Art and Performing Arts courses are popular options for post 16 study. In addition to drawing, painting, 3D and ceramics, the art curriculum encourages the use of ICT and multi-media approaches. Pupils' study is supported by visits to galleries and from practising artists. The school has good sporting facilities and the PE department offers lots of extra-curricular activities including hockey, netball, basketball, rounders, football and athletics and has a commendable record in matches with local schools. In addition to their academic studies students are encouraged to participate in a range of other activities, which involve the organisation of school events and entertainments, attending conferences, participating in debates, planning the sixth form prom, the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme and the involvement in a range of community and charitable activities. The school has links with the local community and businesses. All students complete a work experience placement in Year 11 and many undertake an additional placement doing voluntary work in the community. Active citizenship is encouraged through charity fundraising, school council, prefect team and participation in local youth forums. The school aims to provide an environment which fosters mutual understanding and respect for all members of the school community; to provide a safe and pleasant physical environment.
