General information

Background: Gumley House Convent School is in the eastern section of the London Borough of Hounslow, close to Syon Park and the Thames, occupying a 10-acre site. The house was built by John Gumley nearly 300 years ago and the original house remains providing accomodation for the Sisters. The school, established by the Faithful Companions of Jesus, was founded in 1841. Since that time the school has undergone many changes the most recent building project, completed in 1999, has provided a cafeteria, drama studio, dance and fitness studio, three additional computer suites, 20 classrooms, three new science laboratories and a chapel. The school provides a wide range of clubs and extra-curricular activities including music, drama and sports such as athletics, karate and football. Specialist business and enterprise college status from September 2004. Over-subscribed, with two applications per place. Investori in People status (2005); DfES achievement award (2001, 2002, 2003). Ethos: 'Gumley House is guided by the teaching of Jesus in the Gospels, it promotes a community of love, service and prayer where each one's worth is recognised, each one's contribution is valued and it looks outward to the wider community. In a sense, we are traditionalists building on the foundation of more than 160 years that have formed the character of the school; nonetheless, we are forward-looking, quick to take advantage of new research.' .
