General information

Background: Earl Amherst founded the school in 1871; the junior school opened on its current site on the outskirts of Riverhead in 1966. The school has superb facilities with 12 large classrooms, a hall, dining hall, library, music rooms, swimming pool, and playground and sports field. The school is currently being extended to include an information technology room, an extended library and two small teaching rooms. Many children take part in music tuition and there are strong links with the community and charitable organisations. Staff and parents provide more than 40 extra-curricular activities, including orchestra, drama, gymnastics, swimming and all main field sports. These activities are provided for beginners as well as those with higher skills and school teams won the county championship in 1999 for chess, hockey and cricket. The school aims to provide an happy environment, which promotes high achievement, broad interests, self-discipline, and a respect and care for others. .
