General information

Background: Chiddingstone School founded in 1834 and extended in 1994. The school is situated in the village of Chiddingstone, much of which is protected by The National Trust. The buildings are a 'tasteful blend of nineteenth and twentieth century architecture' and the school also benefits from the use of a National Trust village hall which adjoins the site. In addition to the school grounds, the village playing fields provide an 'excellent' sporting facility. The style of education promotes traditional and established methods and is supported by first hand experiences and imaginative and stimulating contexts for learning. The whole learning process is aimed at 'developing children fully as individuals'. A 'wide variety' of sporting opportunities are made available to the children such as swimming, tennis, hockey, gymnastics, athletics, dance, cricket, football, rounders and netball. After school clubs offer riding, ballet, modern dance, badminton, netball and football. Music and drama feature strongly at Chiddingstone with two major productions each year and an outdoor performance in the orangerie within Chiddingstone's castle grounds. Many charities are supported and the school enjoys 'real interest and support' from the local community, seeking to play a full role in the life of the village. .
