General information

Background: Founded in 1904 as first county grammar school for girls in Kent; moved to current purpose-built school in 1912; imposing facade with central tower and coat of arms. Facilities include technology block, science laboratories, dance studio, two new music rooms, language laboratory, textiles and art rooms, and drama studio. Sports facilities include weights room and covered swimming pool. Strong focus on curriculum enrichment; trips to France, Spain, Germany, America, Austria, Switzerland and Japan; work-experience in the United Kingdom and abroad. Strong focus on citizenship. Offers International Baccalaureat diploma programme. Specialist science college status from September 2003. Over-subscribed, with more than four applications per place. Beacon status; Artsmark Gold (2004); Investor in People status; DfES achievement award. Ethos: 'Aiming for excellent academic results while developing the whole individual.
