General information

Background: Gravesend Grammar School founded in 1893. It moved to its current site in 1938. Pupils aged 13 to 18 were admitted from 1964 to 1992, but the school has now reverted to 11 to 18 selective policies. New additions since 2001 include a new sports hall and excellent technology and Information Technology facilities. A level strength includes English, mathematics, Technology and geography. Sporting strengths of the school include rugby union, badminton, cricket with more than half of the pupils in one or more of the school's teams. More than half of the boys are in one or more school teams. The open spaces provide the opportunity to play a variety of sports on the campus. The school was designated as a specialist school in mathematics and computing in September 2003. Sporting features strongly and the school has a Sportsmark. There are opportunities to play a range of individual and team sports and to take part in music. They can participate in things as diverse as the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme or the Motorola Mock Trial competition. Rugby and hockey are the main activities and badminton, basketball, soccer and cross-country are also some of the extra-curricular activities. In the summer cricket, athletics, swimming and tennis are taught. Its own sports hall and floodlit Astroturf supplement its extensive playing fields. The adjoining rugby and tennis clubs and the Cascades and Cygnet Centres also expand the range of activity available. The school is successful at cricket, regularly fielding six teams across the age groups. The school aims to provide opportunity and challenge in a caring environment to each individual to develop his/her full potential.
