General information

Background: St John is a highly successful Catholic Voluntary Aided Comprehensive school situated in a 15 acre campus shared with St John's Primary and Nursery School. The school successfully offers, in coordination with the Primary schools, a full range of educational opportunities to all abilities from four to 18. The school offers a broad and balanced education with excellent facilities. These include six dedicated information and communication technology rooms, indoor heated swimming pool, sports hall and gymnasium, soccer, rugby and hockey pitches, tennis and netball courts and athletics facilities. Teams represent the school successfully in all these activities and in inter-school cricket during the summer. The standards achieved by pupils in art, drama and music are outstanding within the school and nationally. Students also achieve very high standards in a number of other curriculum areas as its annual results testify. As a Catholic school, the school attaches great importance to the pastoral care and personal development of each pupil. The school?s gymnastics team won the National Schools Gymnastics Championships in 2005-2006. The school is a Microsoft Academy School and is working towards Investors in People Status and also preparing a bid for Specialist Status in Visual Arts. As a Catholic school, it believes each child is a unique creation of God, each gifted in many different ways. The school wishes to help young people to develop their own individuality, to learn to work harmoniously with others and to grow in the new life given at Baptism. The school is committed to the highest standards in every way.
