General information

Background: Moved to current rural site on edge of Tunbridge Wells in 1913, eight years after foundation. Specialist classrooms, library and assembly hall built in 1950s and 1960s; more recently, new design technology and music blocks and science laboratories, and library facilities updated; £2.3m building programme in 2003-2004 provided 16 large classrooms and a new cafeteria; new performing arts centre in 2006. Extensive grounds include all-weather courts. Excellent academic results complemented by range of extra-curricular activities and visits; exchange programmes with schools in France, Germany, India and Egypt; runs expeditions to Ghana and Morocco. County and national success in range of sports, including gymnastics, hockey, cricket and tennis. Music and drama also exceptionally strong. Duke of Edinburgh Award scheme. 'There is a positive ethos of high achievement in all aspects of school life, along with a very strong community spirit where girls and staff are mutually supportive.' Over-subscribed, with nearly three applications per place. Sportsmark (2003); Leading Edge status (2003).
