General information

Background: Founded in 1947 and became a grammar school in 1978. Set in extensive grounds on the edge of Tonbridge. Extensive building in recent years has resulted in new floodlit netball and tennis courts and a new technology building in 1999, refurbishment of all science laboratories in 2000; new cafeteria and student study areas, ICT rooms and language laboratories in 2003; 16-classroom block for English and humanities in 2006. All new facilities designed to promote range of learning styles incorporating ICT. Specialist language college status from 1999, enabling ICT facilities for all pupils to be extended. Kent table tennis champions and all teams reached the finals for netball. Many students are in Kent county orchestra and choirs. It maintains good links with the local community, providing an evening centre for Kent Music School, Kent Netball and adult learning in modern languages. These links enhance the school-led extra-curricular opportunities for our students; 60 clubs and societies. British Council International School Award; internationalism is a strong theme throughout the school, with many opportunities for travel to foreign countries. Before-school care, from 8.25am; after-school care, until 5pm. Over-subscribed, with more than three applications per place. Artsmark Silver (2004); Sportsmark; Investor in People status; DfES achievement award; training school status.
