General information

Background: Crossley Fields was founded in 1993, following the reorganisation of schools in Mirfield. The school aims to be a 'caring school', and tries to 'create self worth in each pupil'. The school population includes pupils from a range of social backgrounds, and the school was recently awarded an Investors In People Award. The school buildings are spread over two acres of a 10 acre site, which accommodates some all-weather hard play areas and some tennis courts. Most of the site is dedicated to a five-acre grass playing field which is equipped for junior football, rugby and hockey. In the summer it becomes an atheletics track and rounders pitches. Sporting achievements by the school are 'high' with an 'excellent level of participation and a good record of winning local tournaments'. Links with local professional and non-professional sports clubs are 'encouraged to enhance community contacts and maintain high levels of sporting achievement'. Other extra curricular activities include French, orchestra, recorder, choir and information and communications technology (ICT). Staff and parents are involved in school outings and educational visits include the annual highlights of three weekend visits to Gearstone Lodge in Ingleborough and Robinwood, near Todmordon. The school has a 'very active' parent-teacher association which works hard to organise social events and raise funds for additional resources.
