General information

Background: Larger than average comprehensive school; facilities include six ICT suites and satellite departmental ICT facilities, new technology and science facilities, an attractive new library and resource centre, a new learning support centre, a general refurbishment of all classrooms, and improved corridor and access provision. The school believes that extra-curricular activities build character, realise potential and present challenges for pupils of all abilities and backgrounds. Significant success in local, district and national competitions, including soccer for boys and girls, rugby league and rugby union, netball, hockey, tennis, athletics, cricket and basketball. Established reputation for public performances; dance groups, drama workshops, annual talent contests. The school also organises summer camps, a computer camp, science weekends, and frequent social outings for each year-group. Specialist mathematics and computing college status from September 2003. Over-subscribed, with 1.2 applications per place. Artsmark Silver (2004); Sportsmark; Investor in People status.
