Background: Newsome High School is a popular, secondary comprehensive school offering a quality educational opportunity for boys and girls aged between 11 and 16. The school is located on an attractive site, with ample playing fields and looks out over open countryside. The school building was completed in 1979. Facilities include science laboratories, specialist technology rooms for resistant materials, electronic control, craft, art and information communication technology. It also has a specialist music room with associated practice areas and a social area for older pupils. Sports facilities include a sports hall, gymnasium, fitness centre, floodlit synthetic turf multi-sports surface, a full-size porous pitch and a sailing/canoeing base. A wide range of sporting, musical and dramatic opportunities available at lunchtime, after-school and during the holidays are an attraction to pupils and recognised as strength of the school. These activities include athletics, dance club, fitness club, football, rounders, netball, hockey, gymnastics club, canoeing, computer club and technology club. The school aims to maintain a calm, warm, bright, visually attractive and welcoming environment.
