General information

Background: Rawthorpe Junior was founded in 1960, and staff and pupils are now 'looking forward to at least a very major refurbishment of the school buildings'. It is situated in an area of high social deprivation. Fifty per cent of pupils have free school meals, 90 are on the SEN register, 23 have statements and 15 have physical disabilities but are fully integrated into the school. Facilities include a 'fully comprehensive' computer and library suite, as well as a 'strong' music department. The curriculum is designed to meet the requirements of the national curriculum and is planned over a two year cycle. Extra-curricular activities include team games such as football, rugby, netball, cricket and rounders, and other clubs such as choirs, recorder groups, orchestra, steel band, library, sewing, French, writering and drama. Some of these take place at lunch time and others after school. Overall the school aims to 'provide an active and stimualting environment where children come to learn and to take pride in themselves, their school and their local community'.
