General information

Background: Captains Close Primary School was founded in August 1971. The newly built school was designed as open plan in style and is located on the western edge of the village, allowing ample space for sports and play areas. Since its opening the school has been steadily improved by the addition of new facilities. The school grounds have benefited from grants obtained from outside agencies over the past three years. The school has been extensively equipped with teaching aids, including science kits, various computers, including 13 computers, two digital cameras, access to the internet, tape recorders, video players, an audio system and a camcorder within the past few years. The school has a wide range of clubs such as homework club, gym club, football club, netball, gardening, French, sewing, art/craft and ICT. These clubs can be for children for all ages. A number of activities take place during lunchtime and after school. These activities are a valuable part of the children's school life, enabling them to experience a variety of new activities. These ?out-of lesson? activities often extend beyond the school grounds into the wider community for example, through inter-school football, netball and athletics competitions and through musical concerts with pupils of primary, high and upper schools in the local ?family? of schools. In addition to residential trips, children are taken on day visits to places of interest, where appropriate to class projects and topics. The school aims to provide a friendly, caring environment where confidence, mutual understanding and high self-esteem are encouaged.
