General information

Background: This 'thriving' rural school draws its pupils from a wide area, some living in fairly isolated hamlets and others in larger villages. The school traditionally benefited from the Hanbury Trust which was established as a charity in the 18th century. A separate primary school was constructed in 1936 and the new buildings were completed in 1997. The 'broad' curriculum is taught through a mixture of individual, group and whole school teaching. The aim is to keep all classes to a maximum size of 25, which sometimes allows individual support for the small number of children with special educational needs. Specialist teaching is introduced for the core subjects at Key Stage 2. All Key Stage 2 children learn the recorder and can receive tuition in an additional instrument. A school band and choir allow for group music-making, and there is a musical production once a year. Physical education at Church Langton involves gymnastics, movement, games and swimming. Some pupils participate in inter-school matches and athletic competitions, and several have found success at county level. The school tries to 'work closely' with parents and a 'thriving' parents' association organises social and fundraising events. Pupils support a charity each year. Though founded on Christian principles, the school 'welcomes children of differing beliefs'. .
