General information

Background: Cobden Primary School is a community school catering for pupils from four to 11 years of age. The original school was built in 1879 at a cost of £4,695 by the Londonborough School Board. After a fire in 1902, which gutted the boys and girls schools, the junior school was re-built as a two-storey building. In 1960 the boys and girls became a junior mixed school, whilst the infant school maintained its independence. The school has 12 semi-open plan teaching areas, three quiet rooms, studio, library, ceramics room, home electronics room, hall and changing rooms. There is also a four plus block with fenced play area and utility room, community wing, kitchen and administration block. A wide range of extra-curricular activities are offered at lunchtime and after-school. These include basketball, football, hockey and some clubs are recorders, science, mathematics, art and performance clubs. The school aims to provide an environment for learning that is stimulating, enjoyable and relevant to the individual, which will encourage high standards of work and behaviour. .
