General information

Background: Countesthorpe Community College is a purpose-built community college in the Leicestershire plan for comprehensive education. The college is co-educational, providing continuing education for students aged 14 to 19 and over 3000 adults and young people in a variety of day and evening activities. The facilities are excellent and well equipped, comprising a combination of general and specialist areas including a three dimensional design area, Home Economics and textile spaces, science and technology laboratories, language rooms, information technology and business studies areas, a gymnasium and sports hall with adjacent playing fields and football pitches, a large theatre, a youth centre, a crèche and a purpose-built 16 plus sixth form centre. Through sports council funding all its tennis courts have recently been totally renovated and provide superb day and night time facilities for tennis at all levels. The whole college is now linked by a computer network with internet access and has four specialist computer rooms. The school has close links with the high schools ensure a smooth transfer at 14. The school?s computer equipment is continually upgraded year on year and its development plan includes an increase in information technology resources. In 2000/2001 the college received the nationally recognised investor in people award. The school aims to build a college where all learners experience a challenging and supportive learning environment.
