General information

Background: The Baston Church of England Primary School is Victorian village school dates back to 1876, although a new school was built in 1993 after the original building was destroyed by fire in 1991. Since that time the school community has more than doubled in size. Baston is a commuter village and many parents work elsewhere. The school has extensive grounds with a wildlife area, a large pond area provided by parents and trees planted by pupils. The grounds are used particularly for science activities. Within the curriculum, a peripatetic teacher assists children with learning difficulties for around two hours each week. Extra-curricular activities include sewing, drama, sketching, French and athletics. Pupils swim regularly and the swimming team has won the small schools area swimming trophy. Music is also promoted, through weekly recorder lessons and the school choir's performances at church festivals and retirement homes. There is an emphasis on drama and dance. As well as fundraising for charity, the school raises money for new equipment by putting on music, song and dance evenings. .
