General information

Background: Opened in 1902, in middle of Sleaford; set in pleasant grounds and has two green areas, one of which is next to ruins of Sleaford Castle; mixture of original buildings, renovated over the years, and more modern constructions built as school expanded and required more space. New technology blocks, drama studio, and sports hall were opened in September 2005; also library, classrooms and laboratory. Rural catchment area of about 200 square miles.Range of extra-curricular activities, including Duke of Edinburgh Award scheme. Sporting strengths include hockey, archery, tennis, football, netball, and basketball. Member of Sleaford Education and Business partnership; active parents' association. Fieldwork includes European visits for history, geography and art; exchange schemes for modern language pupils. Highest number of pupils in Lincolnshire registered with the National Academy of Gifted and Talented Youth. Specialist visual arts college status from 2003. Before-school care, from 8.15am. Career mark. ICT mark (2006). Charter mark; Artsmark Gold (2002); Investor in People status (2004, 2006); DfES achievement award.
