General information

Background: De Aston is a non-denominational voluntary controlled, co-educational secondary school for pupils between the ages of 11 and 18. It is pleasantly sited on the Market Rasen to Louth Road with open views across extensive playing fields towards the Lincolnshire Wolds. The school stands on the site of the original grammar school. The buildings include the remodelled old school as well as phases of new extensions. A teaching block built in 1974 includes a drama studio, a lecture theatre, language booths and a superb suite of computer and business studies teaching rooms. This block is networked for computer use and also houses their specialist teaching rooms for mathematics, languages and humanities. The second phase was completed in July 1993, and provides nine high-tech science laboratories, a library and three mathematics classrooms. The space released in the existing buildings has been remodelled to provide new study and social facilities for the sixth form. Other new buildings at the time of re-organisation in 1974 included an assembly hall, a gymnasium, a sports hall, the school youth wing and a technology suite with extensive facilities for art work, design work in wood, metal plastics, home economics and textile design. New computer assisted design and manufacture facilities have been installed. Most recently, a superb new block of eight classrooms has been added to house the English department. A wide range of extra-curricular activities are offered at lunchtime and after-school. These include badminton, basketball, rugby, netball, health and fitness, gymnastics, rounders and tennis. The school has strong links with local sports clubs and encourages pupils to maintain their interests outside and beyond school. The school aims to provide positive and caring environment. .
