General information
Background: Founded in 1556, the school gained a charter from Queen Elizabeth I in 1576 and moved to its current site in 1881. The school lies at the foot of the Lincolnshire Wolds, with a catchment area that includes the Marsh villages and North Sea coastal resorts. The school has extensive playing fields, six tennis courts, and an indoor swimming pool. Venture fund to support pupils wishing to set up their own businesses. The school works closely with partner schools, providing master classes for year six pupils, offering online resources and help with ICT in primary schools. The school has online curriculum facilities for pupils; distance-learning Latin GCSE course, via video-conferencing, for most able pupils in year nine. Broad curriculum, annual charity week; forms organise events to raise money for chosen charity; £5,000 raised in 2004 for tsunami appeal; senior students visiting Sri Lanka in 2006 to help with rebuilding of schools devastated by tsunami. The school has gained Specialist Business and Enterprise College Status from September 2004 and also has Sportsmark; Investor in People status; DfES achievement award. The school aims to develop a calm and purposeful working atmosphere, and a pleasant and well-kept environment. It values achievement, mutual respect, care and honesty; firm and friendly discipline.
