General information
Background: The origins of The King Edward VI Grammar School, Louth can be traced back to 1276. Nearly £4 million has been spent on new buildings in the last 20 years. Extra-curricular provision includes exchanges and cultural visits abroad, sports, the Duke of Edinburgh Award scheme, and concert tours abroad by the school choirs and orchestras. The school encourages its pupils to become involved in voluntary activities outside the classroom. It has an excellent reputation for musical and dramatic provision, with more than 200 musicians taking part in musical activities each week; annual production at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. Success in sports such as netball, hockey, football for boys and girls, basketball, rugby, tennis and cricket. Flourishing Combined Cadet Force. Specialist science college status from September 2003. Over-subscribed, with more than two applications per place. Sportsmark (2003); DfES achievement award (2003).
