General information

Background: The King's School traces its history back to 1329 when the first teacher was appointed. In 1528 the school was re-endowed by Bishop Foxe of Winchester who also founded Corpus Christi College, Oxford. The school library, a grade I listed building, was the original school house. This has recently been developed into a fine resource with excellent IT facilities. The school occupies a two-acre site in the town centre. Its playing fields are located 500 yards from school and include tennis courts, a rifle range and indoor cricket nets. Rugby, football, water polo and cricket are major sports. The Combined Cadet Force and The Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme are both offered. Since September 2003 King's has been a Business and Enterprise Specialist School in partnership with The Grantham Church (VA) High School. The school has established particularly challenging targets in three specified subject areas that are business studies, mathematics and ICT. The whole-school provision of careers education and guidance received a significant boost as a result of the introduction of enhanced ICT provision in the school library and the quality of provision was recognised when the library was recently awarded a certificate of excellence from Lincolnshire Connexions service. The school works closely with Young Enterprise, Lincolnshire Education Business Partnership and other community groups. The school is an inclusive learning community whose purpose is to provide the best possible education for its students, so that they can become principled, confident and flexible adults.
