Background: Founded in 1844; moved to present site in 1957; two-storey building in residential suburb in south of city; playing fields and swimming pool attached. Sixth-form facilities, with plans to extend. Music and drama suite; six science laboratories; recently-refurbished art and technology rooms. Proud of regional reputation for music and extra-curricular drama. Provides accommodation for gifted and talented resource centre for excellence in Liverpool. Over-subscribed, with 2.5 applications per place. Beacon status (1999). Ethos: 'The school provides a stimulating and enriching Jewish and secular education for all Jewish children in the city of Liverpool and its environs, and provides an education of similar quality and relevance to non-Jewish pupils admitted to the school. It demonstrates the finest standards of multicultural education by cultivating the distinctive qualities of the cultures within the school rather than by blurring their distinctions.' .
