General information
Background: St Cleopas was founded in Toxteth, an inner city area of Liverpool, in November 1975. It is housed in a a single-storey, open-plan building situated in 'lovely' grounds with many trees and green spaces. Facilities include a large and a small playground as well as a large playing field, and the school also has links with Toxteth Sports Centre. It offers a 'broad and balanced' curriculum based on the national curriculum, and considers 'each child's individual ability'. Every Wednesday, classes take it in turns to use the school bus to visit local places of interest. Teachers match the outings to complement subjects being taught in school and the visits are aimed to 'bring the curriculum to life'. A 'range' of extra-curricular activities includes football, netball, quiz club, science club, gymnastics, ju-jitsu and recorder. In 1999, the school was awarded the Healthy Schools Award, and in January 2000 put forward a bid for an Investor in People award. The school has 'close links' with the Liverpool universities as a training school. Pupils are encouraged to raise funds and contribute to four different charities each year.
