General information

Background: St Hilda's Church of England High School founded in 1894 by the community of the Sisters of the Church, an Anglican order of nuns, the school moved to its current site in the 1960s and was officially opened by the Bishop of Liverpool on St Hilda?s day in 1967. The first lay headmistress was appointed in 1974, following 80 years of leadership by nuns. Now double its original design build, the school is located on the edge of Sefton Park, four miles from Liverpool City centre, between the park and city apartments. Notable strengths are in Modern Foreign Languages (French, German and Spanish) and mathematics. Three separate sciences are offered at GCSE and the sixth form curriculum has further expanded through collaboration with other local schools. The school?s carol service is held in Liverpool cathedral and there are nine whole school Eucharists each year. St Hilda?s is notably strong in cross-country running and athletics, in which it is city champion and is generally represented in national finals. The school is an integral part of the community, based on parish links. There are charity collections every Friday, with significant annual donations. The school provides a caring and nurturing community based on Christian values. The school aims to create quiet calm, work-oriented school for learning together.
