General information

Background: Founded in 1909, the school moved to a new modern single-storey building in 1980. It has 'small but attractive' grounds and is situated near the centre of Liverpool in an area which is 'in need of regeneration', and which is both an Objective One area and a New Deal for Communities area. The school offers a curriculum based on the national curriculum and aims to 'create a happy and stimulating atmosphere in which pupils may develop their innate abilities and attain their potential'. It offers a 'wide range' of extra curricular activities, and its football team has played at Anfield, the home of Liverpool FC. Pupils have been British Catholic Schools Cross-Country Champions twice and the school has won the Liverpool Primary Sports Team of the Year award. 'Many' pupils have gone on to be junior and senior representatives at international level in swimming, football, cross-country, athletics and gymnastics. It has 'strong links' with the local community and parents, and 'strong partnerships' with local schools, businesses and universities. Parents raise large sums of money for the school and also value 'the many opportunities to carry on with their own learning'. In the inaugural teaching awards, the school had three regional winners and one national winner. Besides being an Investor in People, it was 'the first school on Merseyside and one of the first primary schools in the north west to receive a Charter Mark'.
