General information
Background: Apton Church of England Voluntary Aided Primary School is situated in the village of Alpington, south east of Norwich. The children come mainly from Alpington, Yelverton and Bergh Apton, but there are also a number from an ever-widening circle of villages. The school maintains close links with the church and parents are encouraged to help in the school as well as join the friends association. The school offers a broad and balanced education, and the curriculum is based on the core and foundation subjects of the national curriculum. A wide range of extra-curricular activities are offered at lunchtime and after-school. These include a police liaison scheme, to promote road safety, good behaviour and an awareness of dangers. Football, netball, self-defence and short tennis are also on offer. Pupils are given the opportunity to learn to play the recorder, and there is a school choir. Both the recorder group and choir regularly perform in public. Pupils are given the opportunity to go on school visits and day trips to places of educational interest. Each summer term, every class has an annual outing and senior pupils attend a dance and music festival at London. Outside speakers and theatre groups often visit the school. Pupils are encouraged to participate in charitable activities, and money raised at Christmas goes to the Church of England Children's Society. The school aims to provide an education of the highest through the effective delivery of a broad and balanced curriculum, which fosters a positive attitude towards learning.
