General information

Background: Founded in 1688 by William Sancroft, former Archbishop of Canterbury. Situated in rural south Norfolk, it provides places for all children in the 10 communities of its catchment area, and for a number of children sent on denominational grounds from outside the area. The present buildings opened in 1967, with the most recent additions in 1992. A new one-meter classroom block is due to open in autumn 2001, comprising five classrooms, information and communication technology (ICT) suite and new library resource centre. Teaching is strong across all subject areas. French and German are offered, as well as options such as drama, music, physical education and rural science at GCSE level. Children with special educational needs (SEN) are supported by a full-time support teacher and five learning assistants. Outstanding opportunities for pupils to engage in extra-curricular activities, fieldwork and foreign travel, and the school also offers an orchestra, wind band and its own recording studio. There is a heated indoor swimming pool, extensive facilities for science and technology, a recently built performing arts suite, and large playing fields. The school provides a caring and supportive environment, in keeping with the Christian foundation, in which a love of learning is nurtured. The school aims to provide a caring and supportive Christian environment, where the love of learning and spiritual values are developed, allowing all to achieve their highest standards of academic, sporting, technological, aesthetic and creative environment.
