General information

Background: Opened in 1839, the school moved to a new purpose-built building on the fringe of Caston village in 1997. The school is located in its own grounds on an 'attractive' site and housed in a building designed to fit in with the traditional style of the village houses. It has three classrooms, a hall, group room, offices, indoor storage rooms, a kiln room and 'full facilities' for disabled pupils. Outside there is a wild area, large field, 'good-sized' playground and a terraced area. The 'broad, balanced' curriculum is supported by extra-curricular activities include sports, handicraft, drama, choir and handbells. Caston aims to give all pupils access to a 'wide range' of information technology resources. The school also plays friendly league games against other schools and participate in a 'variety' of tournaments. There are 'close' links with the community, which comprises three villages, Caston, Griston and Stow Bedan, although some children come from outside the catchment area. There are weekly services by the local rector and many adults help with lessons and organisation. The school also performs at local fetes, the local hospital and old people's home. Caston is 'extremely well-equipped' in all areas, with a 'very active' friends association and 'supportive' governors.
