General information
Background: The Origins of King Edward VII School lie in the 16th century. It was re-endowed by Sir William Lancaster and rebuilt on its present site in 1906. The school was officially opened by King Edward VII. Originally it was a boys' grammar school with boarding facilities but it is now a mixed comprehensive on a single site. There are modern facilities for technology, art and design. A new sports centre, including a sports hall and gymnasium, was opened in 1991 by the Duke of York. A new 12-classroom block for English and modern languages was opened in 1994. Extra-curricular activities include sport, music and drama. A Gold Medal is awarded each year by the Queen to the most successful student at ?A? level. The school aims to provide a caring and well-organised environment in which students have an equal opportunity to achieve their full potential. .
