General information

Background: Formerly the Girls' High School, founded in 1893, and then Gorelston Grammar School in 1968, the school became one of the four 12-16 mixed comprehensive schools established in Gorleston in September 1981. Its 'many specialist facilities' include three computer laboratories, home economics rooms, two art rooms, a design technology area, a library and resources room, sport hall, and main assembly hall. Other classrooms are designed for specialised work in subjects such as music and a 'spacious' drama studio opened in 1995. The school has technology college status and offers an additional technology block with a computer laboratory, a technology room, and CAD/CAM, internet and video-conferencing facilities. A major building programme in 1997 resulted in eight science laboratories, an information technology room, a new mathematics department and enlarged dining facilities. Its modern languages block has six classrooms, including a multi-media suite opened in 1998 and rooms for small groups. The school will seek to provide for each pupil the opportunity of developing his or her potential, socially, physically, intellectually, spiritually and emotionally. Moreover, every attempt will be made to show pupils the need for them to use their skills in becoming useful, happy, integrated members of its society.
