General information

Background: Smithdon High School is a community specialist college, which serves northwest Norfolk. It is a specialist college gaining very considerable additional resources to ensure that its students develop two absolutely essential skills - mathematics and information and communication technology ie computing to the highest possible level. The school is the fortunate benefactor of a very large and extensive building programme, which is set to continue. The original accommodation is a Grade 2* listed building which in recent years has had substantial work completed to bring it up to standard. In September 2000, a new teaching block was completed. This building contained English and humanities classrooms, library, careers, special needs base and office space. There are a large number of specialist rooms including art and design studios, drama and music areas as well as an extensive suite of science laboratories. The school has created an excellent ICT network throughout the school. As well as creating a central ICT teaching area there are a number of computer networks and individual stations spread throughout the school. The school is extremely fortunate to enjoy excellent outdoor sporting facilities coupled with a sports hall, gymnasium and swimming pool. Sports club and teams flourish and the school has an outstanding record in a number of team and individual sports. Many students participate in the Duke of Edinburgh scheme and Army Challenge. The school also offers a number of visits and foreign tours. The school aims to maintain a supportive yet purposeful atmosphere based upon a clear consistent structure.
