General information
Background: Founded in 1927 by Monsignor Ward to provide secondary education to Catholic girls under the direction of the Sisters of the Holy Family. First extension built in 1954; new accommodation in 1984; £6 million extension in 1994, including large sports hall, fitness suite, science block, technology block, drama/lecture theatre, careers suite, sixth-form study, and general purpose classrooms. Tennis courts; grass and all-weather pitches. New dining room and sixth-form centre in 2003. Boys admitted from 1978. Notable success in GAA Ulster College Football and Camogie. Extra-curricular highlights include debating, public-speaking and literacy competitions. A pupil was UK winner of Korea Essay Competition in 2004. Careers guidance and counselling offered throughout school; 22 A-level courses. Annual charity fundraising. Over-subsacribed, with 1.3 applications per place. Investor in People status (2004). Ethos: 'Catholic Christian ethos permeates the school.' .
