General information

Background: Carlton Miniott's infant department is housed in an 'attractive' Victorian building, which was the original schoolhouse founded in 1889. The junior department was added to this in 1975. The school is set in 'extensive' grounds with a 'large' playing field, a newly designed wildlife area two playgrounds and adventure trail apparatus. There are three Key Stage 2 classes, two Key Stage 1 classes and a foundation stage class. A large hall, library and ICT suite are used by all classes. The school employs a fully qualified librarian and teaching assistants in each class. There is a privately run nursery, and pre- and after-school clubs, all sited on the school grounds. Pupils have the opportunity to take peripatetic music tuition in brass, woodwind, guitar and string instruments. Extra-curricular activities include rugby, football, netball, rounders, aerobics, gymnastics, athletics, orchestra and choir. The school has a 'strong' friends of school association which recently refurbished and redecorated the library/computer room. The school also has 'good links' with the local church, playing fields association and parish council. There is a strong provision for personal, moral and social development. All pupils are expected to be polite and well mannered. Older pupils have opportunities to take on responsibilities and care for younger pupils.
