General information

Background: The school founded in 1903, moved to current 13-acre site in leafy south Harrogate, close to the Stray, as grammar school in 1933. Campus includes hockey, rugby, cricket fields, four tennis courts, well-kept gardens and wooded area, expanded as comprehensive in 1973, since when buildings and quadrangles supplemented by sports hall, gymnasium, music centre and sixth-form centres (a second one opened in 1992) and new classroom block in 1998. All classrooms are renovated and school hall is restored since 2002. Extra-curricular programme described as outstanding by Ofsted. The school has a large Duke of Edinburgh Award scheme. It is proud of many music ensembles and symphony orchestra, weekly sports fixtures, strong debating and public speaking record. The school has been awarded with Artsmark (2003), Sportsmark (2003), Investor in People status (2000) and DfES achievement award (2002). The school has completed its new £1,000000 library block in November 2005. DfES has identified it as a high achieving specialist school. It gained a second specialism in technology in July 2006. Teaching of the International Buraracrate in sixth form began in September 2006. The school aims to provide hard working and well-disciplined environment where there is care for each child?s individually.
