General information

Background: Founded in 1875, the school occupies buildings in the centre of the small Nidderdale town of Pateley Bridge. It moved into purpose-built premises on a greenfield site just outside the town in 1980. Despite its small size, the school is 'well-equipped, especially in information technology', is 'well-furnished and carpeted' and includes a sports hall. It is set in 'extensive' grounds and surrounded by open fields, sheep farms, moors and river. The school is over-subscribed, with an average of 1.4 applications per place. Outdoor education and information technology are 'particular strengths'. All teaching rooms and offices are networked, and there are also two suites of computers. 'Our strengths lie in knowing each student very well and in meeting each student's educational needs. We are firmly based in a community where the individual matters, and the values of that community are reflected in all we do.' .
